Parker launches a new generation of Sustainable Fuel Filters made of Technyl®

Parker Hannifin has chosen Technyl® for its new fuel filter line to increase the efficiency and environmental benefits for customers.

The producer of the Racor brand filters, will use Technyl® A 218 V30 reinforced with 30% glassfiber for its new product line E-Max.

Fuel filter keeps engine safe from damaging contaminants and bad fuel. It separates the water present in the diesel, preventing its contact with the engines of vehicles like trucks, buses and tractors.

In the past, most fuel filter parts were made of metal like aluminum. Manufacturing these same parts with engineering plastics materials has proven to be a real breakthrough for the automotive industry, as it reduces weight significantly without sacrificing performance.

The new E-Max using Technyl® will be 50% lighter than the conventional product. It also enhances the filtration system, which is made in two stages, not just one.

“In addition to contributing to lower fuel consumption thanks to its lightness, the E-Max eliminates the need to change the entire filter housing,”says Gustavo Souza, Solvay Automotive Market Development Specialist. “By only changing the filter media, it can reduce the disposal impact as the metal filter contains soil contaminants and can not be incinerated.”

The development of E-Max combines the design expertise of Parker Hannifin in filtering product and the advanced services of Technyl® in material choosing and simulation.

MMI Technyl® Design is an advanced predictive platform that simulates fiber-reinforced parts made with Technyl® materials. It helps manufacturers to avoid costly re-engineering and development iterations.

Parker Hannifin will Initially manufacture the fuel filters for heavy vehicles. Applications to other segments, such as air filters and lubricating oil, are already under development. The innovative concept of filters will also be extended to the European and North American markets.
